In the U.S., aphasia happens to someone roughly every six minutes. Usually it’s a stroke. Sometimes a brain injury. Almost always, it happens in an instant, and the person it happens to is still all the way themselves on the inside. They just can’t find the words to express it.
Insurance covers the acute part. The hospital, the rehab, the first weeks. Then, somewhere around the time a person is starting to understand how much has actually changed, the coverage stops. The clinical word is “plateaued.”
We’re the only place of its kind in New Jersey: a community center, run by licensed Speech-Language Pathologists, where people with aphasia and the families who love them can keep rebuilding their lives for as long as they need to.
Unfortunately, insurance does not cover what we offer. We run on people like you.
One group for one member.
Three groups, lunch in community, and the support that comes with it, for one member, for one day.
Paints, paper, brushes, adapted recipe cards. The small tangible things that make a group actually happen.
Our programs are facilitated by licensed Speech-Language Pathologists in small groups. Each group – art, tech, cooking, conversation, has real costs. When you sponsor a group at $11, you're paying that cost for one member, one session.
Yes. On the donation form you can direct your gift toward general programs, Full-Service scholarships, ACG scholarships, or caregiver programs.
Yes, any time. One click in the email receipt, or one email to us. We'd rather have a happy donor for a year than a frustrated one indefinitely.
Members who apply for scholarships submit financial documentation. We use a consistent eligibility process across the board so the donors who fund scholarships know they're going to people who genuinely need them. No one is turned away for an inability to pay; we cover the difference.
Please! Tours are free, available at all three campuses (Maywood, Toms River, West Orange), and the easiest way to see what your gift actually does. Schedule a visit today!
