Aphasia can be extremely isolating, robbing a person of the ability to communicate in an instant.

Their family members are also impacted, taking on multiple, new roles while learning to communicate with them. The Adler Aphasia Center is a haven for those diagnosed with aphasia and their families, fostering meaningful connections among individuals on similar journeys.

Do you know what aphasia is?

More than 2 million Americans have aphasia, but if you haven’t heard of it, you’re not alone.

Aphasia is a language disorder typically caused by a stroke or brain injury that can affect one’s ability to speak, understand, read, or write. While someone with aphasia may have difficulty communicating, it does not affect their intellect.

You can compare having aphasia to being in a country where you don’t speak the language – you know what you want to say but you just can’t find the words.

Characteristics Of Aphasia

Life Participation Approach to Aphasia

The Adler Aphasia Center is the only long-term aphasia treatment center of its kind in New Jersey. We use the Life Participation Approach to Aphasia (LPAA), a program that helps people with aphasia regain conversational skills and re-engage in life.

Our activities stimulate the brain, ignite the soul, warm the heart, and nurture new friendships — all while improving communication and life for those with aphasia and their families.
