"Partners in Communication"

Aphasia
Aphasia is a communication disorder. It may affect a person's ability to speak, read or write but does not affect their intellect. It can occur as a result of a head trauma, tumor, or in most cases, a stroke.

The Adler Aphasia Center is committed to empowering, enhancing and enriching the lives of those touched by aphasia. The Center offers dynamic activities, programs and services to help those with aphasia and their loved ones live a fuller, richer life.

Volunteer opportunities are available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 am to 2 pm.

What types of volunteer opportunities are available?

Become a Communication Partner You'll get more than you give!

What is a Communication Partner?

Partnering with a person with aphasia, whether in a group or one-on-one, you offer the opportunity for meaningful communication.

Qualifications:
Patience
Desire to work with people
Desire to make a difference

What we offer the volunteer:
Specialized training
Staff support and supervision
Meaningful involvement and personal gratification

We invite you to climb the ladder to a rewarding volunteer experience!

Computer Partner
Commitment: one day a week, 1-2 hours as a computer partner. No computer experience necessary

Conversation Partner
Assist in an activity or co-lead a group discussion. Commitment: 1 day- 3 hours

Creativity Partner
Assist members in our creative programs; for example- art, music, and cooking. Commitment: 1 day- 3 hours a day.
