Our life was complete. We ran a successful business, raised four children, traveled, and dedicated ourselves to several charities and organizations. Then in 1993 Mike suffered a stroke and our lives changed.

Mike, the CEO of a global corporation, was a brilliant communicator. After the stroke he felt depressed and uncomfortable speaking. Well-meaning people would interrupt him as he hesitated. They would offer him words. While trying to help, unwittingly, it was more frustrating. It felt like no one really understood what it was like to have Aphasia and lose your ability to communicate.

Elaine's life changed, as well. She felt frustrated, confused, and helpless as she tried to put our changed lives back together.

We sought the assistance of professionals. They were unable to recommend a place where we could go to find support from others experiencing this same loss - support that would help us to get on with our lives.

Waiting to help others in the same situation we researched Aphasia centers in the United States, Canada and England and discovered a few unique programs dedicated to people with Aphasia, their caregivers, family and friends. We saw people touched by Aphasia learning new ways to communicate and receiving support and assistance.

At the Adler Aphasia Center, we are truly committed to empowering, enhancing, and enriching your life. We invite you to join us for dynamic activities, programs and services, that will offer you the social and emotional support that can help people live a fuller, richer life.

We are conveniently located 1/2 mile from Route 17, Route 4 and Route 80 in Northern New Jersey. Click here for directions to our center.
